Apple Cider Vinegar … For salad dressings, marinades and my NEW HAIR CONDITIONER!

DSC00752So I thought I would give everyone a sneak peak into what’s cooking at Soapnuts HQ.

As a complete convert to our Soapnut Shampoo Bars (of course), to make sure I get all the soap out of my squeaky clean hair and that my hair is shiny and full of life, I have now discovered Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV from here on out)!

This is some amazing stuff, and has become my new favourite green ingredient! I have been using this as my conditioning rinse after I use my shampoo and hair feels and looks lustrous.

Here’s how it works … ACV not only restores your scalps PH balance but also the acidity helps get rid of any product or soap residue or build-up. What also happens when we wash our hair is that our hair cuticles open up, the ACV makes your hair shinier by gliding over the hair, closing the cuticle thus making it a smooth surface for light to reflect on. Hair-cuticle

Which is how commercial conditioner works, but this is 100% natural! Told you it was amazing.

So here at Soapnuts HQ we have been formulating our own brand new amazing and nutritive ACV hair rinse for the great and the good. So you can expect to see some brand new additions to the Living Naturally line in the weeks to come, but if you can’t wait that long, why not try giving it a go at home?

Here is a great recipe for you to try out:

– Boil 3 cups of water in a non-metal pan
– When water has boiled add a handful of herbs – horsetail, rosemary, nettle
– Reduce heat to the lowest setting, cover pan (to make sure all the goodness doesn’t escape) and let herbs infuse for 10 minutes.
– After 10 mins, take the pan off the heat and leave to cool with cover on
– Once cool, strain through seive and add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar and any essential oils of your choosing.
– Store in a spray bottle. Keep any leftover rinse in the fridge and decant to spray bottle as needed.

Some words of CAUTION: Essential oils are very strong and many can be skin irritants if not used correctly. Lavender is one of a very few essential oils that can be used directly on skin, others will irritate skin if used full strength. Do NOT use the cheaper fragrance oils as these are synthetic, can cause skin irritation and provide none of the benefits of natural botanical essential oils.

How To Use Your ACV Rinse

After shampooing your hair, spray ACV rinse all over hair, massage in and rinse. Don’t worry about any vinegar after-smell – there isn’t any, all you get is clean, shiny and bouncy hair!
